Jam nuts are half-height hex nuts used to lock a full nut or to secure a component where there is no room for a standard nut. We stock DIN 439 / ISO 4035 in Umm Al Quwain from M4 to M52 in steel and stainless A2 / A4, zinc plated or plain.
A jam nut (thin nut, lock nut, half nut) is about half the height of a standard hex nut. Tightened against a full nut it jams the threads and stops the assembly working loose — the traditional double-nut lock. It is also used where a thin nut is needed to hold a bearing, adjuster, sensor or spindle in position. Because the thread engagement is short, jam nuts are not used alone to carry full bolt load.
Applications
- Double-nut locking on threaded rod and adjusters
- Bearing, spindle and shaft retention
- Sensors, fittings and instrument mounting
- Turnbuckles, tie rods and stay bars
- Electrical panels and busbar supports
- Pipe hangers and clevis adjustments
