Shackles are stocked in Umm Al Quwain in the sizes rigging crews use every day — D shackles and bow shackles from 0.5 t to 55 t WLL, screw pin and safety (bolt, nut and cotter) types, hot-dip galvanized alloy steel with 6:1 safety factor, plus A4 stainless for marine use — each with its test certificate.
A D shackle (dee, chain shackle) is a narrow U-shaped link closed by a pin, used for straight-line pulls; a bow (anchor) shackle has a rounded body that accepts wider slings and multi-leg loads. Screw-pin shackles are quick to fit and suit non-permanent rigging; safety bolt-type shackles with a nut and cotter pin are for permanent or vibrating installations. Rated shackles carry the WLL, grade and manufacturer mark and are supplied with a certificate to EN 13889 or US Fed Spec RR-C-271.
