Square nuts have four flat sides that resist turning in a slot, channel or against a timber face, and are often used with carriage and T bolts. We stock DIN 557 and DIN 562 in Umm Al Quwain from M4 to M30 in steel and stainless A2, zinc plated, hot-dip galvanized and plain.
A square nut has a larger bearing area than a hex nut of the same thread and can be held captive in a square pocket, channel or timber recess so the bolt is tightened from the other side. DIN 557 is the standard-thickness square nut with a chamfer; DIN 562 is the thin flat square nut used in channel systems and sheet-metal slots. Square nuts are also used in T-slot tables, fencing and traditional timber construction.
