About this product

Taper Washer explained

Taper washers compensate for the slope of channel and I-beam flanges so the nut sits square and the bolt is not bent. We stock DIN 434 (8%, channels) and DIN 435 (14%, I-beams) in Umm Al Quwain from M8 to M36 in steel, hot-dip galvanized or plain.

A taper washer (wedge washer) is a square washer with one face machined or forged at an angle matching the flange slope of a rolled section. DIN 434 has an 8% (about 4.6°) taper for U-channels (UPN); DIN 435 has a 14% (8°) taper for I-beams (IPN) and the heavy flanges of older sections. Placed with the thick edge toward the web, it gives a flat, square bearing face for the nut or bolt head. ASTM F436 beveled washers serve the same purpose for American sections (1:6).

Applications

  • Bolting to channel and I-beam flanges
  • Crane rail clips and runway beams
  • Bracing and tie-rod connections
  • Conveyor, pipe rack and platform framing
  • Steel building purlin cleats
  • Repairs and strengthening of existing structures

Thick edge toward the web of the section so the top face is level.

Do you stock galvanized taper washers?

Yes, HDG from M12 to M24 for crane rail and external steel.
