Half thread (part-threaded) hex bolts have a plain shank that fills the hole in a shear connection, which is why structural engineers specify them for beam splices, base plates and machinery. We stock DIN 931 / ISO 4014 in Umm Al Quwain from M6 to M56 and ¼" to 2", grade 4.6, 8.8 and 10.9, black, zinc plated and hot-dip galvanized.
A half thread hex bolt has thread only on the end of the shank, leaving a plain, full-diameter section under the head. In a joint loaded in shear the plain shank bears on the plates, giving higher capacity and less deformation than a threaded shank. Thread length follows the standard formula (2d + 6 mm up to 125 mm long) so the plain section is predictable for the designer.
Applications
- Structural steel beam splices and connections
- Base plates and machinery hold-downs
- Crane rails, runway beams and conveyors
- Heavy vehicle and trailer chassis
