About this product

Nylon Lock Nut (Nyloc) explained

Nyloc nuts are the everyday vibration-proof nut, and we stock DIN 985 / ISO 10511 (thin) and DIN 982 / ISO 7040 (high) in Umm Al Quwain from M3 to M36 and ¼" to 1½", in class 8 and 10 and stainless A2 / A4, zinc plated, hot-dip galvanized or plain.

A nylon insert lock nut has a nylon ring pressed into a collar at the top of the nut. As the bolt thread cuts through the nylon it creates a prevailing torque that resists loosening under vibration and shock, without damaging the bolt thread. Nyloc nuts are rated for continuous service up to about 120 °C; above that use an all-metal prevailing-torque nut (DIN 980 / ISO 7042). They can be reused a few times but the locking effect reduces.

Applications

  • Vehicle chassis, suspension and body fixings
  • Conveyors, screens and vibrating machinery
  • Pumps, fans, motors and compressors
  • Playground, fencing and modular structures
  • Electrical enclosures and cable tray
  • Marine, boat and pool fittings (A4)

Tensile, hardness and chemical testing is carried out by independent UAE-accredited laboratories, and EN 10204 3.1 certificates are issued with every batch. We supply across the GCC, MENA and Africa.

Frequently asked

Nylon Lock Nut (Nyloc) — FAQ

Can nyloc nuts be reused?

A few times in non-critical joints; the prevailing torque drops with each use. Replace in safety-critical assemblies.

What temperature can nylon lock nuts take?

About 120 °C continuous, 150 °C briefly. For hot applications use all-metal lock nuts DIN 980 / ISO 7042.

DIN 985 or DIN 982?

DIN 985 is the standard (thin) nyloc; DIN 982 is the high form with a full-height thread, for higher loads and 10.9 bolts.
