A490M is the higher-strength member of the ASTM structural bolt family and we hold it in Umm Al Quwain from M12 to M56 (½" to 2½") in black finish with A563 DH nuts and F436 washers, imported from approved mills with full certification. Use it where the connection is sized for 150 ksi bolts; use A325M where galvanizing is required.
ASTM F3125 Grade A490 is a heavy hex structural bolt of quenched-and-tempered alloy steel with 150–173 ksi tensile strength — about 25% stronger than A325 — with both a minimum and a maximum tensile specified to limit brittle fracture risk. The imperial grade matches ASTM A354 BD; the metric grade matches property class 10.9. A490 bolts must not be hot-dip galvanized or electroplated because of hydrogen embrittlement, so they are supplied black or with an approved zinc-aluminium coating.
Applications
- Heavily loaded beam-to-column and splice connections
- Bridge girders and truss chords
- Crane girders and heavy industrial frames
- Stadium and long-span roof structures
