About this product

Roofing Screws (Self-Drilling with EPDM Washer) explained

Roofing screws fix profiled metal sheets, sandwich panels and cladding to purlins and rails in one operation — drill, tap and seal. We stock 5.5 mm and 6.3 mm hex-head self-drilling roofing screws in Umm Al Quwain in galvanized carbon steel, bi-metal (stainless head) and A2 stainless, all with EPDM bonded washers, in lengths from 25 to 150 mm.

A roofing screw is a hex-washer-head self-drilling screw with a drill point that cuts its own hole through steel purlin or sheet, a thread that taps into it and an EPDM bonded washer that seals the penetration. Drill point number sets the steel thickness it can penetrate (#3 to 6 mm, #5 to 12 mm); thread pitch and length are chosen for the panel and purlin. Bi-metal screws combine a stainless body with a hardened carbon-steel point for corrosion resistance and drilling capacity.

Applications

  • Metal roofing and wall cladding on steel purlins
  • Sandwich panels and insulated roofs (long series)
  • Sheet-to-sheet side laps (stitching screws)
  • Skylights, ridge caps and flashings
  • Container and porta-cabin construction
  • Solar mounting rails on metal roofs

Frequently asked

Roofing Screws (Self-Drilling with EPDM Washer) — FAQ

Which drill point do I need?

#3 for steel up to 6 mm, #4 to 8 mm, #5 to 12 mm; for timber purlins use a Type 17 wood point.

Galvanized, bi-metal or stainless?

Zinc / Ruspert inland; bi-metal or A4 within a few kilometres of the coast or on chemical plants — matched to the sheet coating to avoid galvanic corrosion.

Do you supply painted heads?

Yes, colour matched to RAL or the sheet manufacturer colour.
