Self-drilling (Tek) screws drill, tap and fasten steel in one operation without pre-drilling, and we stock the DIN 7504 range in Umm Al Quwain from 3.5 mm to 6.3 mm — hex washer head, pan head and countersunk, Phillips and Torx — in zinc-plated, Ruspert-coated, bi-metal and A2 stainless.
A self-drilling screw has a fluted drill point that bores a hole the right size for its thread, followed by tapping threads and a head. It is designed for steel-to-steel joints — cladding rails, purlins, framing, ducting — and for fixing sheet, plasterboard and timber to steel. DIN 7504 K is the hex head, N the pan head and P the countersunk head; the drill point number (#2 to #5) sets the maximum steel thickness. Winged versions drill oversize through timber or board before biting into the steel.
Applications
- Steel framing, light-gauge studs and tracks
- Cladding rails, purlins and side rails
- HVAC ducting, plenums and units
- Cable tray, trunking and brackets
- Cabin, container and modular construction
- Decking, board and timber to steel (winged)
